Lost World of Tambun Adventure Park

Extreme-based activities are great for the young-at-heart, the not-so-young and those wishing to spice up their lives with a little adrenaline rush or well, challenge their boundaries or comfort zone....

The Influenzas Team was at the Lost World of Tambun’s Adventure Park which offers a mix of eco-touristic and extreme activities, built against the breathtaking backdrop of the 400-million-year-old Tambun limestone hills.

You can choose to challenge yourself and your friends with the Via Feratta with Natural Abseil, a rock-climbing activity which requires one to scale upwards on a limestone rock wall and abseil downwards to solid ground or well, many other activities, including canoeing, glamping, etc….

Our team who were at the park not to long ago took up two challenges, 2 only, because of the limited time we had.. and it was to go caving in the sixth mile tunnel…. And also the 13 High Rope Course.

As daunting as it sound, we took the challenge.. on our 2nd day at the park, the first day we spend doing what everyone else did at the park, enjoying sumptuous food at Ipoh Street…

Then we were admiring and feeding the adorable animals of the Lost World of Tambun… from the birds, to Rain the Giraffe, Ruby the Raccoon, Juwita the Hippo and so on…

Our team members had so much fun laughing and teasing each other Then we also went for our Onsen Steamboat, another amazing dinner experience where we got to cook our food in the hot spring water, fish it out again, put it in a bowl and put in our desired soup before eating…

We watched the fire percussionists do their thing in wonder...

Then we soaked our weary selves in the hot springs, half shrieking when the water was a bit too hot, or cold… and had fun with the slides…

Our 2nd day began early in the morning, even before the park was open… we headed to the Adventure Park and while waiting for preparations, we put on all our safety gear and then went canoeing in the lake…

The guys went all the way to the other side of the lake while we two girls decided to just canoe around the area…. Once the preparations were ready, we two girls hopped on the boat to head to the other side of the lake where we found the others and pulled them towards the edge of the lake, where we all got off and headed to the sixth mile tunnel…

Personally, I dreaded the idea of having to go through the cave for miles in the dark and in the water which heaven knows what was in the water… but nevertheless, I forced myself to go though it.. We walked past a housing estate and reached a small lake.

To get to the entrance of the tunnel, we were told we had to cross this little lake.. or is it a pond... and were warned not to step in the pond… or risk ruining our shoes with the sludgy mud there.. So we all held on the ropes and tried our best to float across the lake… the water was cold, and we emerged slightly unsightly with wet clothes, and waited for everyone to cross the lake…

Once we were all were across to lake, we observed a minute of silence and prayed for a safe trip and that nothing untoward will happen….

The tunnel derived its name from the fact that it is located on the sixth mile of a village here. The tunnel is not 6 miles long as I initially thought… it’s just 700m long and takes about two to three hours to explore.

It is believed to be a former tin mining area as well as a communist hideout... You will spot traces of tools that are left in the cave intact as the management wanted to keep the cave in its original state..

Once inside the cave, the water came up to our thighs. We quietly waded through. The tunnel was hauntingly quiet except for the splashing we made… The team had to be careful as we were walking through water and cannot quite see where we were going and some parts of the trail were rocky and slippery.

However it was an interesting journey as we got to see unique rock formations, stalactites and stalagmites… There were mining artefacts strewn about, including a sieving basket as well as rocks stacked on top of one another and an obvious “dry storage area” near the ceiling of the cave, which might have been used to store weapons or food which our guide pointed out….

The guide warned us not to touch the walls if we can since there are vipers that sometimes stay coil on rocky side of the vertical wall waiting to prey on passing bats and such - ok.. cringe..…

Our team manage to come across bats, spiders, albino millipedes, glittering crystals on the ceiling along the way before coming to the end of the tunnel where the Lost Valley awaited..

...we did not go far, but sat down on a make shift area for a mini picnic, sharing some snacks and nasi lemak etc for about 15-20 minutes before heading back into the tunnel for the trek back…

I slipped and almost fell a couple of times but manage to get through it.. and believe me, the tunnel is pitch black if and when you turn out all the lights… we tried it halfway and could not see anything, not even out own hand in front of our face..

We then headed for lunch after washing up at the bathroom nearby which also serves as the glamping site bathroom, we headed on to our next activity which was the 13 High Rope Course featuring hanging ropes fashioned into an obstacle course purposely made to test one’s agility, confidence and endurance.

And… boy did it challenge my own endurance and agility… however, with the help and encouragement of two of my team members, Arie and Aizul who were in front and at the back of me, I got through it… It was definitely scary at some parts but once we got to the end of it, I could not help but feel euphoric of having gotten through it… overall it was thrilling and so much fun…

After the 13 High Rope Course, we headed to Tin Valley’s kopitiam and had our tea before our team members went into the Haunted House… I initially wanted to go but got way to freaked out when the first team who went in came crawling out from the place in hysterics… lol
